Here is an excerpt:
iF: A lot of the actors in TRUE BLOOD are called upon to disrobe at some point. Do you have that?
O’HARE: No. Not yet. [laughs] It hasn’t happened. I’ve gotten this far in my career without having to do that, it’d be nice to keep some things private, you know what I mean? If I’m called upon to, I will gladly, but Russell has dignity. I think he needs to keep his dignity.

PopWrap: You were a fan of the show before joining, so let’s start with one thing you love about working on “True Blood” that fans may not know.
Denis O’Hare: The teeth are fun – they’re tough to talk in, so we have soft fangs and hard fangs. Soft fangs are for biting people, so you don’t hurt the other people, and the hard fangs are for speaking, because they stay in better and are easier to articulate with. But either way, my favorite thing to say with the fangs is Sookie Stackhouse [lisps out her name]. It’s like a vampire retainer.
PW: Amazing. Is it true that your the resident history buff on the “True Blood” set?
Denis: I’m something of a history geek [laughs]. So I asked Alan if I could go crazy with research. I’m a big fan of research. I had immersed myself in Roman history for another movie, so I added some early medieval stuff into Russell’s backstory because I thought this guy would be from 900 AD. I also did a lot of research on Charlemagne. Then Alan said,” no, no, no – he’s older than Godric,” so I was thinking like 2200 years old. Suddenly get a script that says, “I’m nearly 3,000 years old.” Oookay. [laughs]

iF: Had you ever played a vampire, a king and/or a Mississippian before?
DENIS OHARE: Well, I think when I was eight, I was a vampire for Halloween, and I was a werewolf when I was nine and I think I was Frankenstein when I was 10. A king – I’ve played the Scottish king in the Scottish play – of course, I can’t say the title [there is a theatrical superstition against saying aloud MACBETH, the title or the character] – on stage, and a Mississippian? No. I’ve played an Okie, a lot of Brits, a lot of Germans, some Irish people.

“Russell intends to take over the world,” O’Hare tells PEOPLE. “He feels that human beings have squandered their stewardship of the earth by not treating it well. And he is an old Celt, a Druid, who was an earth-worshipper, and he feels like he needs to take over.”

SPOILERS
TVGuide.com: Tell me about the King of Mississippi.
O’Hare: Russell is the oldest vampire we’ve yet to meet, and is therefore the most powerful. His physical power is kind of staggering. At one point, a vampire attacks him and Russell twitches his shoulder and the vampire flies off him and hits the ceiling. He is beyond morality, an ancient Celt, 2,800 years old, a pagan. Certainly he’s assimilated and evolved, but at heart he’s a pagan druid creature, an earth-worshipper who’s incredibly concerned with nature. Eventually, we’ll hear his vision for the world, which is that humans need to step aside and let vampires rule because humans are squandering the earth and ruining their habitat.
