On her way home to Bon Temps, Sookie begins to daydream about her and Eric. She goes to Eric and comforts him for the loss of Godric, his maker.
Soon they become intimate and begin to kiss – and Sookie submits to Eric’s fangs.
Waking up suddenly from her daydream, she & Jason are in a van (with Bill slumbering in a travel coffin) driving home to a devastated Bon Temps.
The van stops abruptly after a couple of locals step into the path of the van. Getting out to check on the pedestrians Sookie & Jason see them laugh and run off – after noticing the black saucer eyes.
Meanwhile at Sookie’s house, Maryann, Karl & Eggs are preparing a tribute to the God That Comes – made of meat, fruit, flowers, and sticks.
Eggs asks if Maryann wants “Fresh” meat – but she settles for Kobe beef that Karl recommends.
Cautiously opening the motel door, Sam allows Andy back into the room after his trip to town for clothes & a much needed new bottle of booze.
Once again Sam tries to explain to Andy what Maryann is and what is happening to the town. He reveals that he is likely to be sacrificed in front of a bunch of naked drunk people.
Sookie & Jason arrive at Bill’s safely where Jason tries to inform the sheriff about what is happening around town. Getting the answering machine he runs out of time leaving his message re: the insanity that has hit Bon Temps.
While at Bill’s, Hoyt & Jessica have their hands full looking after a crazed Maxine Fortenberry (who only seems to be calmed – relatively – by playing Wii). Sookie & Jason notice Maxine has the same black saucer eyes – and Hoyt & Jessica fill them all in on the recent events in Bon Temps.
Informed that Maryann has taken over her house, Sookie is worried for Tara so she & Bill go to her house to look for her. Jason decides to head over to Merlottes – that this is the war for which he has been training.
After Sam receives a desperate call from Arlene and he and Andy head to Merlottes to rescue her – realizing too late that it was a setup. Barely escaping, Sam & Andy lock themselves in the walk-in refrigerator.
Taking charge, Terry directs Jane Bodehouse to call Maryann and let her know that Sam has been captured.
Fortunately for Sam, Jane was distracted by a number written on the wall by the payphone and forgets to call Maryann.
Lettie Mae & Lafayette try to break Tara from her trance without much luck.
Tara announces that “He’s on his way and he’s gonna kill you all”.
Bill & Sookie arrive at the Stackhouse residence – finding the place trashed. Sookie gets a call from Lafayette wanting her help with Tara – and warning her to leave the house immediately. She grabs Bill to leave but Maryann blocks their escape.
Maryann reaches for Sookie – and Sookie soon realizes that it was Maryann that attacked her in the woods. Bill lunges at Maryann and sinks her fangs into her neck, but soon recoils as if in pain and begins to retch.
Maryann approaches Sookie and asks “What are you?” Sookie pushes Maryanns face away from hers, and another mysterious power is revealed – glowing that seems to cause Maryann temporary pain or distraction.
Maryann laughs and again asks “What are you?”
Jason – armed with construction tools – arrives at Merlottes to find the townsfolk engaged in all manner of debauchery.
He tries to get their attention with a chainsaw – only succeeding by cutting the CD player in half. He takes Arlene hostage with a nail gun, and demands them all to leave. Terry – momentarily coming to his senses – agrees to Jason’s demands and directs them all to leave Merlottes. Jason then releases Arlene and locks the doors to the bar.
Jason’s rescue of Sam & Andy is all too short – as the townfolk break back into the bar. Sam, deciding there is no other way, gives himself up to the mob.
Tara begins to chant repeatedly – and Lafayette slaps her trying to break her from her trance. Bill & Sookie soon arrive. Sookie tries to read Tara’s thoughts but sees only darkness. Feeling it is the only way, Bill decides to glamour Tara.
Tying Sam to the top of a car, the mob is distracted by Jason impersonating the God Who Comes – with road flares & a gas mask. Andy holds a tree branch and spotlight behind Jason. Somehow the mob falls for the show, and surrenders Sam for a tribute. Sam asks the “God” to smite him and when he does, Sam disappears, making the mob believe that he has been sacrificed to the “God”. They then head off to Maryanns for a full debriefing. After the mob leaves, Sam reappears wearing only an apron putting out the road flares before they burn his bar down. Seeing this ,Andy pledges never to drink again.
Glamouring Tara, Bill allows Sookie to get in Tara’s mind and bring her out of the trance. Her eyes returning to normal, she embraces her family. Bill & Sookie talk outside – where Bill comes to the realization that he needs the help of an older, more powerful vampire. He must rush to be there and back before dawn….
Hoyt has his hands full with his mother insulting him & Jessica. Jessica has had enough and pushing Hoyt aside sinks her fangs into Maxine’s neck.
Arriving at a mansion, Bill is escorted into a private room. Entering, Bill says “You’re majesty.”
