Well, it’s finally happened…Vampires have come out of the coffin!
It’s a busy night at Merlotte’s Bar & Grill. Sookie Stackhouse unfortunately has the gift or curse of hearing everyone’s thoughts.
Meanwhile, Tara is practicing to be “employee of the month” at her job at the local hardware store. Telling customers exactly what they can do with themselves.
Sam, owner of Merlotte’s is dealing with a secret desire to be Sookie’s love but she just wants him for a friend.
In walks a couple of trailer trash low lifes “the Rattrays” looking for a Vampire to drain for blood. “V-Juice” is a a pretty highly demanded and valuable thing these days.
On the other side of town, Jason Stackhouse is having a “good time” with a lady friend (Maudette). Jason is pretty well known for being real friendly with the “ladies”.
Tara drowns her sorrows at Merlotte’s after losing her job at the hardware store. Convincing Sam that he needs help behind the bar and help looking after Sookie, Tara becomes Merlotte’s new bartender…with an attitude.
A hush has fallen over the crowd at Merlotte’s as their very first Vampire makes an appearance. Stopping in to grab a bottle of Tru Blood (Synthetic Blood), Bill feels the stares of everyone in the room. You would think they’d never seen a Vampire before.
Sookie is immediately drawn to Bill. Loving the realization that she can not hear his thoughts. A chance to just breathe and not having someone’s thoughts hanging around like dark clouds. Sam is not too happy about Sookie’s new friend.
Of course the Rattrays are happy about Merlotte’s newest customer. They are in great need of a “fresh” batch of “V-Juice”. Moving to his booth quickly, they proceed to befriend vampire Bill.
Knowing what they have intended for Bill by reading their minds, Sookie knows she needs to put a stop to this and hopes she’s not too late.
Sookie leaves the bar only to interrupt their plan to drain Bill of all his blood. The Rattrays are not happy about it all and try to keep Sookie away from Bill. She saves him but only to make a few new enemies.
Morning brings the bad news that Maudette Pickens has been murdered. Making Jason feel a bit nervous since he was the last to see her alive.
Jason gets picked up and taken to the station for questioning. To his surprise, he finds out that his escapades with Maudette the night before were being video taped.
Leaving the bar late that night after her shift, Sookie gets paid an unwanted visit from the Rattrays. Seeking revenge for her stopping the proceedings the night before, the Rattrays try to teach her a painful lesson.
