PopWrap: Fans of the books know that Crystal is a major player in the world of “True Blood” — how much did you know coming in?
Lindsay Pulsipher: I had not read the books but I was definitely a fan of the show. I had friends that were into the books and when they found out I was playing Crystal, they were all so excited. And since I have started reading the books, so I’m a fan of both now.

PW: Did you read the books before filming started?
Lindsay: It was actually a conscious decision to wait and read the books until after we had developed Crystal’s character on the show, because they are two separate entities. The show is based on the books, obviously, but I wanted to see the character through Alan Ball & the writer’s eyes. So I held off and worked on my version of Crystal first. But now that I have a handle on her, I’m diving into the books.

Adam: True Blood has one of the most dedicated fan-base on TV today, especially for a Cable show. How does it feel to be in the centre of all of it?

Carrie: I did 7 pilots over the years before I did the True Blood pilot. You never know which of these pilots is going to hit, and you certainly can’t predict how successful it will be. So I don’t take any of this for granted at all. I honestly never imagined the show that would hit for me would be what I like to call a “drama-comedy-horror-vampire-porn-variety-show”. Nor did I think I’d be playing a buxom, red-headed, sassy, brassy, married a million times waitress with an attitude. But I’m thrilled to be doing it!

Did you know, initially, what this character was all about?
No, they didn’t actually tell me much at all. I went to an audition and we had a couple of scenes — the first meeting with Tara at the bar, and then one of the scenes in which I’m really distraught at her trying to get away, and really, there was nothing about it that seemed like it wasn’t just a torturous romantic story. It wasn’t until I started filming it, and started getting these scripts coming in, when I was like, Oookay! All right! I guess I’m a psycho.
